Spirit of Place
From a mysterious desert to the endless ocean, DEDON outdoor furniture collections exhibit dreamlike new worlds inspired by people, places, and stories collected under open skies. A glance through their 2023 Lookbook reveals the dramatic power of design to harmoniously interweave a comforting presence into our most personal and cherished moments.
DEDON is a brand that needs no introduction. With over 30 years of industry leadership and representation in over 80 countries, the company is a recognized pioneer in design and material innovation. Their distinct design philosophy celebrates the flow of “energy that makes a place unique. The feeling of having arrived. The Spirit of Place.”
Synergy
Jeff Curran, CEO of CurranHOME and sisalcarpet.com, is extremely excited to announce DEDON as the latest addition to our catalog of luxury outdoor furniture brands. CurranHOME is the exclusive e-commerce distributor of DEDON products in the US.
“Quality and design are the two most prominent things we value about DEDON. These ideals are at the core of what we do at Curran and we are focused on partnering with brands that embrace this same philosophy. This created an instant synergy between us.”
Quality
The design community celebrates DEDON’s commitment to quality and innovation. Curran notes:
“The collections are thoughtful, and feature their signature fiber designs along with other quality mixed use materials.”
At the heart of DEDON’s success story is their revolutionary signature fiber. Over 30 years ago, DEDON revolutionized the woven outdoor furniture industry with a proprietary, eco-friendly synthetic fiber. Researched, developed, manufactured and tested at their state-of-the-art facilities in northern Germany, the recyclable non-toxic DEDON fiber is unrivaled for its strength, durability, weather fastness and luxuriousness of color, texture and touch.
While DEDON fiber production originates in Germany, this is just the first step on a long global journey before a finished piece of furniture ever ends up in an outdoor living room.
Our next stop on this journey takes us to Cebu Island in the Philippines, where the world’s finest master weavers handcraft every item. As this video demonstrates, a single chair can take up to seven days to complete.
Design
DEDON engineers and artisans collaborate with a veritable who’s who in the global design community to create one-of-a-kind furniture collections and colorworlds for the DEDON portfolio. From Richard Frinier, the widely acknowledged “King of Outdoor Furniture”, to young up-and-comers, as well as crossover specialists from related disciplines like haute-couture fashion, DEDON is a career-crowning destination for the best and brightest artistic talents.
Here are a few examples of DEDON’s most iconic collections and debut offerings.
The KIDA Collection by Stephen Burks
KIDA is a reimagination of the hanging chair with a gyroscoping shell that cradles the occupant in a light and airy perch suspended above the earth. The effect is to feel “as free as the breeze” while swaying gently in the wind.
Each hanging lounge chair is wrapped in 834 meters of innovative DEDON Fiber Touch, a sophisticated process that requires 38 hours to complete. The soft tactile textile is available in three colorways: vibrant polychromatic Glow Touch, muted and neutral Ease Touch, and the dark, contrasting Dusk Touch.
MBRACE by Sebastian Herkner
MBRACE takes its name from design that is “like a gesture—the gesture of embracing someone.” From the wraparound wing chair to the cocooning daybed, there is no mistaking the cozy enveloping character of these modern outdoor furniture pieces.
Stylistically, the seating is a mix of teak and woven fiber elements. DEDON fiber, woven in a triaxial pattern around the powder-coated aluminum frames, is available in six unique colorways developed by world-renowned colorist Giulio Ridolfo. The scoop style seats with their expansive back rests are supported by turned teak legs for a refined indoor aesthetic.
PAROS by Jean-Marie Massaud
PAROS, a new collection for 2022, reflects designer Jean-Marie Massaud’s desire to “quest for the essential” old-world style of the Mediterranean, and translate those ancient feelings and modern textures into the practical “art of living with the sun.” His vision produced a very modern luxurious low-set woven modular lounge system that conveys a timeless sun-soaked Riviera feel.
A specially developed, strikingly natural new strand of matte brown Silt-colored DEDON Fiber is thickly lashed around the extra-wide armrests and backrests of the sectional pieces, resembling the rustic cordage of woven baskets that you might find in an open-air market or onboard a fishing vessel. And yet, large circular stainless steel feet anchor the design to the modern era.
A New Distribution Model for the US Market
There is no question that the pandemic has created some wrinkles for the global design community. Supply network hiccups and material shortages result in fewer choices for designers and consumers. At the same time, demand for luxury residential and commercial outdoor furniture has never been higher.
While the DEDON brand has been familiar to the US design community since its introduction in 2009, 2022 will usher in a new distribution model for DEDON collections with CurranHOME operating the exclusive e-commerce channel in the US.
Jeff Curran, CurranHOME CEO:
“I have admired the DEDON brand for decades, but its distribution model was targeted solely to brick and mortar partnerships which limited our ability to work together. Along with many changes in our industry, DEDON has positioned itself for new opportunities and we are thrilled that our paths crossed and now we have the opportunity to partner together with them in 2022.”
CurranHome and DEDON: Partners in Sustainability
DEDON sets the industry standard for environmental friendliness. Their fiber is 100% recyclable and sustainably manufactured, polluting neither groundwater nor the ozone. They produce zero waste across the entire DEDON supply chain, recycling everything down to the aluminum shavings. But creating products of such exceptional quality they last for decades, this might be their most sustainable feat of all.
A new innovation from 2021, DEDON EcoCycle Fiber is made with polyethylene derived from sugarcane ethanol, and yet it offers the same luxurious look and feel as standard DEDON Fiber, as well as the same unrivaled strength and weatherability.
Jeff Curran, CurranHOME CEO:
“DEDON’s innovative designs are built to last and to be enjoyed for generations, not prone for replacement after a few seasons. Being mindful of the environment and abundant waste that is created by disposable products, we embrace this attention to sustainability. DEDON represents the best of what is available in the luxury outdoor furnishings industry and Curran only wants to sell the best. Perfect fit!”
A Bright Future
Jeff Curran, CurranHOME CEO:
“Our segment-leading customer service paired with a constantly improving website will provide DEDON a home for a long time to come. We could not be more proud to have DEDON joining us, and available for order immediately on our beautiful website, but also as a leading brand feature in our new Seattle trade showroom launching in 2022!”
