Platform seating seems to be the outdoor furniture trend for 2016. The trend began a few years ago with the Rausch Platform collection and picked up steam last year. Now everyone has jumped on board, and I must say, most platform seating is very attractive. My favorites are Grid from Gloster, Platform from Rausch and Ekka from Mamagreen. Platform designs lend themselves to lots of flexibility—they can be used as a sofa, chaise or daybed. Platforms tend to look better in modern settings, but I have seen them used at Swiss chalets where they look great too.
Mid-century modern or “vintage” is my runner-up for outdoor furniture trends in 2016. I cherry-picked a couple for you to look at: Monterey from Barlow Tyrie, Kaat from Mamagreen and Dansk from Gloster.
Woven outdoor synthetic wicker appears to have peaked. High-end teak and teak with stainless steel are still popular day in and day out.
